Delhi To See Two Separate Rain Spells Today as Winds Gust Up to 60 Kmph, IMD Warns

IMD forecasts two rain spells in Delhi with winds reaching up to 60 km/h on Thursday.

The national capital is expected to witness another spell of rain and thunderstorms on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds. The weather department said changing atmospheric conditions could bring relief from recent warm weather while also causing temporary disruptions to traffic and outdoor activities.

According to the IMD, a spell of light rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds is likely during the forenoon and afternoon hours. Wind speeds are expected to reach 40-50 kmph, with gusts touching up to 60 kmph in some areas during thunderstorm activity. Residents have been advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of strong winds and lightning.

A second spell of very light to light rainfall is also expected during the night. Weather officials said intermittent showers could continue across different parts of Delhi, contributing to a gradual drop in temperatures and improved air quality conditions in some localities.

The rainfall in Delhi is part of a broader weather system affecting large parts of North, Central, East, and Peninsular India. The IMD has forecast widespread thunderstorm activity, lightning, and squally winds across several states over the coming days, with some regions likely to receive heavy rainfall.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, especially in low-lying areas that are prone to waterlogging during intense showers. Traffic congestion and delays in road transport are possible during peak rainfall periods, particularly in areas with poor drainage infrastructure.

The weather department has advised residents to stay updated with official forecasts, avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms, and take necessary precautions while commuting. The rainfall is expected to provide temporary relief from summer conditions while signaling a more active weather pattern across northern India.
