Delhi Techie Faked Death to Flee Debt, Found Hiding in Ayodhya
Delhi Techie Who Faked Disappearance Last week, Found Hiding in Ayodhya
A 42-year-old manager at a Gurgaon-based IT multinational, reported missing last week, was found alive in an Ayodhya dharmshala, Delhi Police revealed on Friday.
The man, who staged his disappearance to evade mounting financial debts, had sparked a frantic search after his unlocked car was discovered near a drain in southwest Delhi’s Kakrola area on May 8, 2025, raising fears he had jumped into the water body.
A PCR call alerted police to the abandoned vehicle, prompting a search operation involving the fire department and emergency teams.

Investigations uncovered suspicious behavior: the man had formatted his mobile phone a day before vanishing, disabling tracking. Using alternative methods, police traced him to Ayodhya, where he was found hiding, an officer said. “During questioning, he admitted to faking his disappearance due to heavy debt,” the officer added, noting his intent to escape financial pressure.
The case, initially treated as a potential drowning, shifted to a financial distress investigation. The man’s debt, estimated at Rs 1.2 crore from loans and credit cards, overwhelmed him, per police sources.
Further proceedings are underway to determine legal actions, with no charges filed yet. The incident highlights the growing issue of debt-driven stress in urban India, where personal loan defaults rose 8% in 2024, per RBI data.
