Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta Takes Metro Ride, Boosts Fuel Saving Campaign Drive

Delhi Speaker travels by metro promoting fuel conservation in Delhi.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Monday participated in the “Metro Monday” campaign by travelling from his residence at Tilak Marg to the Delhi Legislative Assembly using public transport, in a move aimed at promoting fuel conservation and sustainable urban mobility.

The Speaker began his journey from Supreme Court Metro Station and travelled via the Delhi Metro network, interacting with commuters along the way. He changed trains at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station before proceeding towards Vidhan Sabha Metro Station, from where he reached the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Officials said the journey was intended to highlight the importance of adopting eco-friendly travel habits in daily life.

The “Metro Monday” initiative is part of a broader campaign encouraging citizens to reduce fuel consumption by using public transport. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for energy conservation, the programme promotes responsible urban commuting practices while also aiming to reduce traffic congestion in the national capital.

According to officials, the initiative is also linked to the “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” campaign, which focuses on public participation in nation-building activities, including environmental responsibility. The campaign has been positioned as a way to encourage behavioural change among citizens by normalising the use of metro services and other shared transport systems.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and several cabinet ministers have also participated in earlier editions of the campaign, using the metro and feeder bus services for official travel. Ministers including Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Ashish Sood have also been seen supporting the initiative by commuting via public transport and engaging with passengers during their journeys.

Officials said the programme aims to strengthen sustainable urban mobility practices in Delhi, particularly at a time when fuel consumption and traffic congestion remain major urban concerns. They added that continued participation from public representatives is expected to encourage wider adoption of public transport among citizens.
