Delhi Speaker Expels 12 AAP MLAs for Disrupting L-G’s Address

The incident unfolded during the second day of the eighth legislative assembly session.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta expelled 12 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Atishi, from the House for the day on Tuesday after they raised slogans during Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address. The incident unfolded during the second day of the eighth legislative assembly session.

The expelled MLAs included Atishi, Gopal Rai, Veer Singh Dhingan, Mukesh Ahlawat, Chaudhary Zubair Ahmed, Anil Jha, Vishesh Ravi, and Jarnail Singh. Atishi later claimed the BJP had removed BR Ambedkar’s portrait from the chief minister’s office, accusing them of disrespect. “The BJP’s true face is clear—they think Modi can overshadow Babasaheb,” she said at a press conference, alleging Ambedkar’s images were taken down from both the Delhi Secretariat and assembly.

Gupta condemned the disruption, stating the address deserved respect, not political sloganeering.

Today’s Delhi Assembly session was anticipated to be a firecracker, with the tabling of 14 long-pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports set to ignite fierce debate. These reports, reviewing the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s performance on issues like state finances, liquor policy, and public health, had been a point of contention, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleging AAP suppressed them to hide corruption.

The session, following Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address, promised high drama as the new BJP-led government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, aimed to expose what they called AAP’s misrule. With AAP MLAs already expelled for sloganeering, the stage was set for a volatile clash, as both sides prepared to spar over the reports’ revelations in a packed, tense House.
