Delhi Set to Go Electric: GreenCell Unveils 570 New High-Tech Buses for City Roads
GreenCell Mobility to deploy 570 new electric buses in Delhi to boost zero-emission public transport.
Delhi’s public transport is set for a green revolution as GreenCell Mobility (GCM) announced plans to deploy 570 new electric buses across the city in the coming months. The initiative aims to strengthen Delhi’s zero-emission transport network, reduce congestion, and provide commuters with safer, more reliable travel options.
The rollout comes on the heels of GreenCell’s recent $89 million investment round, attracting funding from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), British International Investment (BII), and Tata Capital. These funds are expected to expand the company’s fleet operations and enhance charging infrastructure, supporting the wider adoption of electric mobility in India’s major urban centres.
The new buses will be 12-metre, air-conditioned electric vehicles equipped with larger battery capacities, tailored to meet Delhi’s operational demands and road conditions. They will operate from depots at Rajghat, Dilshad Garden, and Seemapuri, serving key commuter routes and improving last-mile connectivity for residents across the capital.

During a flag-off ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta celebrated the deployment of 500 buses, highlighting Delhi’s continued focus on sustainable urban mobility. Each bus will feature advanced safety measures, real-time tracking, Passenger Information Systems, reversing cameras, and accessibility facilities for differently-abled passengers.
GreenCell’s CEO, Devndra Chawla, emphasized that the project marks a transition from pilot programs to city-wide, technology-led adoption of electric public transport. “Our goal is not just adding buses but creating a dependable, scalable public transport ecosystem that Delhi and other cities can rely on long-term,” he said.
Beyond Delhi, GreenCell Mobility operates large-scale electric bus projects across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and Puducherry. The company also runs 50 intercity electric buses for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), managing a fleet of over 1,200 electric buses supported by more than 270 charging stations nationwide, underlining its growing presence in India’s sustainable mobility sector.
