Delhi Rains: Tree Fall Critically Injures Father, Daughter in Kalkaji
Heavy rain triggers chaos in Delhi
A 50-year-old man and his young daughter were critically injured on Thursday morning when a massive tree, uprooted by heavy rainfall, crashed onto their motorcycle in southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji area. The incident, which occurred in B Block around 9:30 a.m., also damaged several parked vehicles, highlighting the dangers of the ongoing monsoon in the capital.
Torrential rains, pounding Delhi since late Wednesday, weakened the tree’s roots, causing it to collapse onto the road. The father-daughter duo, residents of Kalkaji, were riding through the area when the tree struck, leaving them severely injured. Emergency responders rushed them to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition, according to police reports.
Authorities deployed a hydraulic crane to clear the debris and restore traffic flow, which was disrupted for hours. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been alerted to assess the damage and conduct urgent pruning of vulnerable trees across the city to prevent similar incidents. Posts on X indicate growing public concern over poorly maintained trees in urban areas, with many urging stricter safety measures.
