Delhi Police Smash Sextortion Racket, Nab Kingpin and Three Others
Blackmailers extorted Rs 35,000 via dating app
Delhi Police have dismantled a sextortion racket, arresting its kingpin, Armaan Khan (21), along with three accomplices, Mangal Singh (31), Shyam Singh (21), and Aasid Khan (37), for extorting Rs 35,000 from a Delhi resident using a secretly recorded obscene video.
The gang lured victims through fake profiles on dating apps, engaging them in flirtatious chats before initiating video calls on social media platforms. During these calls, a pre-recorded obscene clip of a woman was played, and victims were manipulated into undressing, with their actions covertly recorded. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam explained, “The complainant’s video was secretly recorded and used to threaten him with social media exposure unless he paid Rs 35,000.”
After the victim transferred the money to a bank account provided by the fraudsters, further demands prompted him to report the crime via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Initial arrests of Mangal Singh and Shyam Singh in Delhi led to the capture of Armaan Khan in Mewat, Rajasthan. Police recovered a phone containing the victim’s video and others involving different individuals. Aasid Khan, who allegedly supplied the payment scanner for Mangal Singh’s account, was also apprehended.
