Delhi Police Alerts Commuters: Traffic Curbs for Republic Day Rehearsals
Delhi Traffic Police has issued restrictions on key central roads to ensure smooth Republic Day parade rehearsals along Kartavya Path.
With Republic Day 2026 approaching on January 26, preparations are intensifying in the national capital. The Delhi Traffic Police has released a detailed advisory to manage traffic disruptions caused by ongoing rehearsals for the grand parade. These measures aim to facilitate uninterrupted practice sessions by military contingents, cultural troupes, and other participants on the iconic Kartavya Path, formerly known as Rajpath.
The rehearsals, covering the route from Vijay Chowk to India Gate and extending up to the C-Hexagon, will lead to temporary traffic restrictions at several major intersections. Specifically, movement will be limited from 10:15 am to 12:30 pm on January 17, 19, 20, and 21, 2026. Affected crossings include Kartavya Path-Rafi Marg, Kartavya Path-Janpath, Kartavya Path-Mansingh Road, and Kartavya Path-C-Hexagon. Commuters are advised to steer clear of these stretches during the specified hours to avoid congestion and delays in central Delhi.
To minimize inconvenience, the police have outlined alternative routes for affected commuters. Those heading towards Vinay Marg, Shanti Path, or further to New Delhi and beyond can opt for Sardar Patel Marg via Mother Teresa Crescent and the RML roundabout leading to Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Another viable option is Park Street via Mandir Marg. For travel between east Delhi and south-west Delhi, the Ring Road through Vande Mataram Marg is recommended as a bypass. Motorists are urged to plan trips in advance and use public transport like the Delhi Metro, which will operate normally.

These rehearsals are crucial for ensuring the flawless execution of the Republic Day parade, a celebration of India’s constitutional values, military prowess, and cultural diversity.
Authorities have appealed for patience as these temporary curbs support a seamless national event. By following the advisory, residents and visitors can help contribute to the smooth conduct of preparations while avoiding unnecessary hassles in the bustling heart of the capital.
