Delhi New Year's Eve Traffic Plan: Key Roads Closed Around Connaught Place After 7 PM
Delhi Police issues traffic advisory with restrictions around Connaught Place for New Year's Eve.
Delhi Police on Tuesday issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of New Year’s Eve, announcing special arrangements for key areas like Connaught Place and India Gate. With a significant surge in holiday traffic expected, authorities have planned road diversions, parking restrictions, and deployment of additional staff to manage congestion. The measures will be in effect from 7 pm on December 31 and continue until celebrations conclude.
Entry into Connaught Place’s inner, middle, and outer circles will be strictly regulated, with access granted only to vehicles carrying valid passes. Major points of restriction include Roundabout Mandi House, Bengali Market, Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road crossings, Patel Chowk, Gole Market, and Windsor Place, among others. Vehicles attempting to enter these zones without authorization will be turned back.
To facilitate smooth traffic flow, the police have designated multiple parking areas around Connaught Place. Key locations include Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, Mandi House, Minto Road, Panchkuian Road, K.G. Marg-Ferozeshah Road crossing, Bengali Market, Windsor Place, and R/A Buta Singh on Jantar Mantar Road. Parking within Connaught Place itself will be extremely limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

For North-South traffic, commuters are advised to use alternate routes via Ring Road, Delhi Gate, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Mathura Road, Rani Jhansi Marg, Panchkuian Road, and Mother Teresa Crescent. East-West movement can be managed through Ring Road, Bhairon Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg, R.M.L. Road, Park Street, and Shankar Road. These diversions aim to prevent gridlocks in high-traffic zones.
Special arrangements have also been made at India Gate, where pedestrian movement is expected to be high. Traffic may be restricted in the C-Hexagon area near India Gate if crowds increase, with authorities prioritizing pedestrian safety over vehicular movement. Delhi Police has urged citizens to plan travel in advance, follow instructions, and avoid restricted areas to ensure a safe and smooth New Year celebration.
