Delhi Metro to Kick Off at 4 AM for Independence Day 2025 for Red Fort Celebrations
Early metro services and QR tickets ensure smooth travel for Independence Day attendees at Red Fort.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that metro services will commence at 4:00 a.m. on August 15, 2025, across all lines to facilitate travel for guests, invitees, and the general public attending India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.
To accommodate the early morning rush, trains will operate every 30 minutes from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., after which the regular timetable will resume for the rest of the day. “To facilitate the special guests, invitees, and general public to attend the Independence Day ceremony on Friday, 15th August 2025, the Delhi Metro will commence its services at 04:00 a.m. on all its Lines from all terminal stations,” the DMRC stated.
Special arrangements have been made for attendees holding bona fide Invitation Cards issued by the Ministry of Defence. These individuals will receive special QR tickets for travel to and from the Red Fort, with costs reimbursed to the DMRC by the Ministry. The closest metro stations to the venue are Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate, providing convenient access for attendees.

The announcement follows a full-dress rehearsal held on August 13 at the Red Fort, conducted under stringent security measures. The rehearsal included security personnel, cultural contingents, and ceremonial arrangements to be replicated on Independence Day. To ensure smooth operations, Delhi Police issued a traffic advisory, closing key roads such as Lothian Road, Chandni Chowk Road, SP Mukherjee Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, and Nishad Raj Marg from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Traffic from areas like ISBT Kashmere Gate, Salimgarh Bypass, and Vikas Marg was diverted to maintain security and mobility.
With these measures, the DMRC aims to ensure seamless travel for those joining the national celebrations, reinforcing its commitment to public convenience during significant events.
