Delhi Introduces 300 New Electric Buses In Push For Green Mobility
Delhi CM flags off 300 electric buses, promoting green mobility.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday flagged off 300 new electric buses, reinforcing the city’s commitment to sustainable and green public transportation. The initiative is part of the Delhi government’s broader strategy to reduce vehicular pollution, lower carbon emissions, and encourage eco-friendly mobility across the national capital.
Speaking at the launch event, Kejriwal emphasized the government’s dedication to providing clean and efficient public transport. “These electric buses are a step towards a greener Delhi. We are committed to ensuring that our citizens have access to safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation options,” he said. The buses are expected to replace older diesel vehicles, reducing air pollution and contributing to the city’s climate action goals.
The 300 electric buses will operate on major routes connecting key residential and commercial hubs, aiming to improve commuter convenience while simultaneously minimizing the city’s carbon footprint. Officials highlighted that these buses are equipped with modern features, including GPS tracking, automated fare collection, and comfortable seating, ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Delhi’s transport authorities stated that the addition of electric buses aligns with India’s national vision of promoting electric mobility and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The move also supports the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, which incentivizes electric vehicle deployment across the country. By investing in electric buses, Delhi sets an example for other Indian cities seeking sustainable public transport solutions.
Experts noted that the environmental benefits of this initiative could be substantial. Each electric bus is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly compared to diesel counterparts, while also cutting down on noise pollution. Additionally, lower operating and maintenance costs for electric buses could provide long-term economic advantages to the city’s transport infrastructure.
The Delhi government has announced plans to expand the electric bus fleet further in the coming years, with a target of making a majority of the city’s public transport vehicles electric. As urban centers struggle with rising pollution levels, initiatives like this demonstrate a proactive approach to sustainable urban mobility. For Delhi residents, the new buses represent a step toward cleaner air, quieter streets, and a more modern and efficient public transport system.
