Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway Cave-In: Repair Work Causes Traffic Chaos For Second Day
Cave-in near Narsinghpur causes heavy traffic on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway for second day
Traffic moved slowly for several kilometres on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway on Wednesday as repair work continued at a section near Narsinghpur that caved in following heavy rainfall. Two lanes of the Jaipur-bound carriageway remained barricaded, creating severe congestion on one of the National Capital Region's busiest arterial routes during peak travel hours.
The cave-in occurred on Tuesday after heavy rain affected the road section near Narsinghpur. Preliminary information indicated that the damage was linked to ongoing pipeline work combined with intense rainfall. The affected portion of the carriageway was closed for safety, forcing vehicles into fewer operational lanes and leading to long queues along the expressway.
Authorities barricaded two lanes on the Jaipur-bound side while repair teams worked to restore the damaged section. The lane restrictions significantly reduced the road's capacity, causing traffic to move at a slow pace for kilometres. Commuters travelling through the stretch faced extended delays as the disruption continued into Wednesday.

The congestion also affected employees travelling to offices and industrial units near the expressway. Some workers from nearby factories and Bestech Cyber Park chose to leave their vehicles and walk the final part of their journey because of the slow-moving traffic. Several commuters were seen navigating muddy sections of the service road to reach their workplaces.
The incident has highlighted the vulnerability of heavily used urban roads during periods of intense rainfall, particularly where underground infrastructure work is underway. Pipeline excavation and disturbed soil can increase the risk of road subsidence when heavy rain leads to water accumulation or weakens the ground beneath the surface, requiring authorities to carefully assess the affected area before reopening lanes.
Repair work remained underway as authorities sought to restore the damaged section and ease congestion on the Jaipur-bound carriageway. Motorists using the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway were expected to face delays until the affected lanes were reopened. The route is a crucial connection between Delhi and Gurugram and carries heavy daily traffic, making disruptions on the corridor particularly challenging during peak hours.
