The BJP-led Delhi government is set to launch its ambitious Mahila Samriddhi Yojana on March 8, offering Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to women aged 21-60 from economically weaker sections.
The BJP-led Delhi government is set to launch its ambitious Mahila Samriddhi Yojana on March 8, offering Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to women aged 21-60 from economically weaker sections. According to sources, the draft proposal, which outlines eligibility for women with an annual income of up to Rs 2.5 lakh, is ready and awaits Cabinet approval. This scheme, a key promise from the BJP’s Delhi Assembly election manifesto, aims to empower financially strained women.
An official involved in the planning revealed that the draft was finalized after discussions with the Delhi Chief Secretary. “The income ceiling for eligibility is Rs 2.5 lakh annually. Once the Cabinet approves the draft, registration will kick off,” the official stated. The rollout event, scheduled for International Women’s Day at JLN Stadium, will feature BJP chief JP Nadda, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and senior party leaders. Online registration will begin, with symbolic payments made to some beneficiaries.
Party MP Manoj Tiwari recently assured that the registration process will start on March 8, with a beneficiary list to be prepared within one and a half months. The scheme targets swift implementation to deliver on the BJP’s electoral commitment to support Delhi’s poor women.
However, the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has slammed the BJP for delays, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised approval in the government’s first Cabinet meeting. AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha criticized the BJP, saying, “We won’t let them mislead people with false promises. Our protests will persist, from streets to the Assembly.” AAP leader Rituraj Jha echoed this, recalling Modi’s pledge to transfer funds by March 8.
As the scheme nears its launch, it remains a focal point of political debate, with the BJP aiming to fulfill its vow and the AAP questioning its execution.
