Delhi Government Rolls Out Cancer Awareness, Mobile Screening and Self-Testing Programme

The Delhi government deploys mobile cancer screening vans and self-testing kits.

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Delhi government launched a cancer awareness and screening programme across the capital. The initiative aims to improve early detection and prevention of cancer. Mobile cancer screening vans have been deployed for public access. These vans are equipped with advanced testing facilities. The programme focuses on reducing delays in diagnosis.

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh inaugurated the programme on Wednesday. He said timely screening and awareness are essential to control the rising cancer burden. According to him, many patients seek medical help too late. Early detection can make treatment more effective. The government is prioritising preventive healthcare.

Under the Cancer Awareness, Prevention, and Screening (CAPS) programme, mobile vans will operate in both prominent and remote areas. This will allow people to undergo screening without affecting daily routines. The vans are equipped with mammography machines. HPV DNA testing facilities are also available. The initiative targets wider public participation.

The government also introduced a self-testing kit for cervical cancer screening. Women can collect vaginal swab samples themselves for HPV DNA testing. The samples will be tested using RT-PCR technology. Test reports will be shared within a week. Medical consultation and treatment will follow if required.

The programme also includes cancer education and anti-tobacco awareness campaigns. It will promote early detection practices and cervical cancer vaccination. Special focus will be on breast, cervical, and oral cancers. Screening infrastructure across Delhi will be strengthened. Services at the Delhi State Cancer Institute will also be expanded.
