Delhi Engineering College Prohibits UNO Game, Warns Of Fines And Parent Notices

Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering issues notice banning UNO and card games campus-wide, threatening fines and parental involvement.

A college in the national capital has sparked debate after announcing a ban on the popular card game UNO on its campus, warning students of strict disciplinary action and heavy fines for violating the directive.

According to an official notice issued by the college administration, students have been instructed not to play UNO or similar card games within campus premises, including classrooms, corridors, and common areas. The notice states that failure to comply with the order could invite monetary penalties and further disciplinary measures under the institution’s code of conduct.

The college administration reportedly justified the move by citing concerns over discipline and the learning environment. Officials said such games distract students from academics and disrupt the decorum of the campus, adding that repeated instances of students gathering to play during class hours had prompted the decision.

The ban, however, has triggered mixed reactions among students. While some said the restriction was excessive for a harmless recreational activity, others argued that leisure activities should be allowed in moderation, especially during free periods. The decision has also drawn attention on social media, where users questioned whether such measures address deeper academic or administrative issues.

Student representatives have reportedly sought clarification from the administration, urging it to reconsider the order or provide designated recreational spaces where students can unwind without affecting academic schedules. Some students pointed out that games like UNO are often used as stress-relievers amid academic pressure.

The incident has reignited a broader discussion on student life, discipline, and personal freedom on college campuses. As debates continue, the college administration has maintained that the ban is aimed at ensuring focus on academics and maintaining order, signalling that the directive will remain in force unless reviewed by the authorities.
