Delhi Courts to Fast-Track Cases for Armed Forces, Paramilitary
Swift Justice for Soldiers Ordered
The Delhi High Court has issued a directive mandating all lower courts in the capital to prioritize and expedite hearings for civil, revenue, and criminal cases involving personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces. The order, issued by Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj on August 7, follows instructions from the Chief Justice to ensure swift justice for those serving the nation.
The circular cites legal provisions under the Army Act, 1950, Navy Act, 1957, Air Force Act, 1950, and the Indian Soldiers (Litigation) Act, 1925, amended in 2018, which grant special protections to armed forces personnel in legal proceedings. These laws recognize the unique challenges faced by soldiers, such as frequent postings and operational duties, which often hinder their ability to pursue litigation. The directive extends these protections to paramilitary personnel, ensuring their cases are also prioritized.
All Principal District and Sessions Judges across Delhi’s major courts—Tis Hazari, Rohini, Saket, Dwarka, Karkardooma, and Patiala House—have been instructed to implement early hearings and expeditious disposal of such cases. The move aims to reduce delays and provide timely relief to personnel who face legal disputes, including property matters, family disputes, and service-related issues.

The directive has been welcomed on platforms like X, where users praised the judiciary’s recognition of armed forces’ sacrifices, though some urged similar measures for veterans. This step reinforces India’s commitment to supporting its 1.4 million active military and 2 million paramilitary personnel, ensuring their legal battles are resolved swiftly amid their demanding service.
