Delhi CM Warns Officials: Laxity on Roads and Drainage Will Not be Tolerated
CM Rekha Gupta orders departments to finish road and drainage works before monsoon.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday directed all government departments responsible for road construction and drainage maintenance to ensure that ongoing works across the national capital are completed before the onset of the monsoon. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting convened to assess the progress of infrastructure projects approved earlier. The Chief Minister emphasized the urgency of finishing these works on time to prevent waterlogging, traffic disruption, and other civic issues that typically arise during the rainy season in the city.
During the meeting, Gupta warned officials against delays and negligence in executing development projects. She stated that any form of laxity in completing the work would not be tolerated by the government. The chief minister instructed departments to accelerate construction and repair activities so that all critical road and drainage infrastructure is ready before heavy rains begin. The move is aimed at strengthening the city’s preparedness and improving public convenience during the monsoon months.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Gupta also assured officials that there would be no shortage of funds for development works in the capital. The government has committed to providing the required financial support to ensure projects move forward smoothly. The CMO said the chief minister stressed that the priority was to deliver efficient infrastructure that meets the needs of residents and prevents recurring civic problems during the rainy season.

The chief minister further instructed department heads to complete all tender-related procedures by the end of March. Officials were asked to fast-track administrative approvals and procurement processes so that contractors can begin or continue work without delay. By setting a clear deadline for tendering, the government aims to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that often slow down large-scale infrastructure projects.
Road and drainage infrastructure remains a key concern for residents of the national capital, particularly during the monsoon when several areas experience flooding and traffic congestion. In recent years, civic authorities have faced criticism for delays in repair work and inadequate drainage management. The government’s directive seeks to address these concerns by ensuring timely execution of planned projects.
The review meeting is part of the administration’s broader effort to improve urban infrastructure and civic services across the city. By prioritising the completion of road repairs and drainage upgrades ahead of the monsoon season, the government hopes to reduce disruptions and enhance the overall resilience of the capital’s infrastructure network. Officials have now been tasked with closely monitoring project timelines and ensuring that the deadlines set by the chief minister are met.
