Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Unveils Rs 1 Lakh Crore ‘Game-Changer’ Budget for 2025-26
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta tabled a landmark Rs 1 lakh crore budget for the 2025-26 financial year today, heralding it as a “historic” shift for the capital. Presented in the Delhi Assembly, this maiden budget under the BJP-led government—its first in 27 years—marks a 31.5% hike from the previous year’s Rs 76,000 crore allocation by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, vowed to end “decades of corruption and inefficiency,” doubling capital expenditure to Rs 28,000 crore to turbocharge development.
The budget zeroes in on ten priority sectors, with infrastructure taking center stage. Rs 1,000 crore is set aside for enhancing Delhi-NCR connectivity, targeting smoother roads, upgraded sewer systems, and reliable water supply.
“This is about building a Viksit Delhi—a developed capital that works for everyone,” Gupta declared, echoing her pre-budget promise to reflect public input gathered from over 10,000 suggestions.
Welfare measures shine bright: Rs 5,100 crore will fund a Rs 2,500 monthly stipend for eligible women under the Mahila Samruddhi Scheme, while Rs 2,144 crore boosts healthcare via the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
Following the BJP’s sweeping win in February’s elections, this budget signals a bold pivot toward progress, with Gupta’s vision drawing praise—and scrutiny—as Delhi watches its promises unfold.
