Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Unveils Game-Changing Project to Bury Power Lines in Shalimar Bagh!

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta launches an ₹8 crore pilot to shift overhead power cables underground in Shalimar Bagh, promising safer electricity and a cleaner cityscape.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta initiated a transformative pilot project in her Shalimar Bagh constituency, moving overhead power cables underground at BH Block, Janta Flats Colony.

With an ₹8 crore budget, the project, set to finish in three months, aims to untangle the colony’s dense web of wires, enhancing its aesthetic and ensuring reliable electricity in all weather conditions. Power Minister Ashish Sood echoed Gupta’s vision, emphasizing safety and uninterrupted supply.

Gupta, also the finance minister, allocated ₹100 crore in the 2025-26 budget to expand this initiative citywide. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited’s CEO, D Basak, confirmed that the pilot will cover 10 kilometers of underground lines.

This move, part of a broader urban upgrade, addresses safety hazards and power disruptions, setting a model for modernizing Delhi’s infrastructure while improving residents’ quality of life.
