Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Celebrates BJP’s West Bengal Victory With Bengali Snacks
Rekha Gupta celebrates BJP’s Bengal win in Delhi, highlighting the party’s historic political breakthrough.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta marked the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) electoral success in West Bengal with a symbolic celebration featuring traditional Bengali snacks at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday. As the BJP moved decisively towards forming the government in the eastern state, ‘jhalmuri’ and ‘rasgulla’ became the centrepiece of the festivities. The gesture was seen as both a cultural nod to Bengal and a political statement underscoring the party’s breakthrough in a state long dominated by regional forces. The celebrations reflected growing confidence within the party following the electoral outcome.
The BJP’s victory in West Bengal is being viewed as a historic milestone, as it marks the party’s first ascent to power in the state. The win also aligns with a broader trend of expanding political influence under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a message shared on social media, Gupta credited Modi’s leadership for the party’s growing footprint across India, noting that multiple states are increasingly backing the BJP. The celebratory tone highlighted the significance of the result not just for Bengal, but for the party’s national ambitions.
Gupta, who had actively campaigned in West Bengal, played a visible role in the party’s outreach efforts during the election. She addressed rallies and participated in roadshows across key constituencies, including Kharagpur and Durgapur, urging voters to support the BJP. During her campaign, she strongly criticised the incumbent Trinamool Congress government led by Mamata Banerjee, accusing it of fostering an environment of fear and political intimidation. Her remarks were aimed at mobilising voters seeking change after years of regional party dominance.

The Chief Minister also engaged directly with local residents during her campaign, including a visit to a tea stall in Durgapur where she interacted with a woman entrepreneur. In Kolkata, she alleged that suspected Trinamool Congress workers attempted to disrupt her roadshow by switching off streetlights, an incident she cited as evidence of political hostility. These episodes became part of the BJP’s narrative of resistance against what it described as undemocratic practices by the ruling establishment.
In her earlier speeches, Gupta emphasised the need for political transformation in West Bengal, stating that citizens had endured over a decade of governance marked by fear and instability. She asserted that voters were ready to embrace a new leadership aligned with the BJP’s “Lotus” symbol, promising improved governance and safety, particularly for women. Her campaign messaging consistently focused on restoring public confidence and ensuring equitable development across the state.
With the BJP’s apparent victory now confirmed, the election outcome is expected to significantly alter West Bengal’s political landscape. The result challenges the long-standing dominance of the Trinamool Congress and introduces a new phase of governance in the state. Political observers note that the shift could have wider implications for national politics, reinforcing the BJP’s position as a dominant force while reshaping regional power dynamics in eastern India.
