Delhi CM Launches Major School Upgrades Aiming to Surpass Private Standards

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta inaugurates school projects to elevate public education to private standards.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday inaugurated a series of new education infrastructure projects across the national capital, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening public schools. The projects include a new building block at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Mansarovar Garden, an ICT laboratory, and a new District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) building at Dilshad Garden. The initiatives are aimed at enhancing classroom capacity, digital learning and teacher training facilities.

Addressing the gathering, Rekha Gupta said the government is focused on outcome-based education reforms rather than symbolic announcements. She emphasised that the goal is to bring government schools at par with, and in some cases ahead of, private institutions. She added that strong infrastructure, well-trained teachers and access to technology form the backbone of quality education.

As part of a broader push towards digital integration, the Delhi government is collaborating with organisations such as the Ladli Foundation to establish 101 new computer laboratories equipped with over 2,000 computers. The initiative is being implemented through public-private partnerships and CSR funding. Education Minister Ashish Sood also announced that tenders have been issued for installing 7,000 smart blackboards across 21,000 classrooms to promote interactive learning.

Officials said the upgraded facilities are expected to ease overcrowding in schools. At Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Mansarovar Garden, the student-teacher ratio is projected to improve from 55:1 to nearly 40:1, enabling better classroom engagement. The new DIET building at Dilshad Garden includes 36 rooms, subject-specific laboratories and modern training spaces to strengthen teacher capacity and professional development.

The government said similar infrastructure upgrades are planned across multiple government schools in the coming months. The broader objective, officials added, is to ensure that students in Delhi’s public schools receive education and exposure comparable to private institutions, backed by improved facilities and sustained policy support.
