Delhi CM Begins Construction Of Inderlok-Indraprastha Metro Corridor
New Delhi Metro corridor construction begins to improve connectivity.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched the construction work of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Inderlok-Indraprastha Metro Corridor at the Sarai Rohilla Metro Station construction site in the national capital. The beginning of diaphragm wall construction at the station marked the first phase of the major infrastructure project aimed at expanding Delhi’s metro connectivity.
Addressing the occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Metro is not only a transport system but also a foundation for a developed and modern Delhi. She highlighted that continuous expansion of the metro network is an important step towards providing citizens with safe, faster, convenient and environment-friendly public transportation options.
The Chief Minister said that modern infrastructure development is progressing rapidly across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She added that the Delhi government is working in coordination with the Central Government and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to strengthen public transport facilities and improve connectivity across the national capital.

The 12.377-kilometre Inderlok-Indraprastha Corridor will be a fully underground extension of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line (Line-8). According to the official statement, the corridor will include 10 underground stations at Inderlok, Daya Basti, Sarai Rohilla, Ajmal Khan Park, Jhandewalan Temple, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Delhi Sachivalaya-IG Stadium and Indraprastha.
Once completed, the extension will increase the Magenta Line’s total length to nearly 89 kilometres, making it the longest metro corridor in the Delhi Metro network. The project will also provide passengers with more interchange options, connecting seven major metro lines, including the Red, Green, Yellow, Airport Express, Violet and Blue Lines, making travel across Delhi more convenient.
The new corridor is expected to improve access to several important locations, including Sarai Rohilla Railway Station, New Delhi Railway Station, Delhi Sachivalaya, Jhandewalan Temple, Arun Jaitley Stadium, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, India Gate, Kartavya Path, National War Memorial and Central Vista. The project will benefit government employees, students, traders, tourists and daily commuters while strengthening public transport links to commercial and educational hubs such as Karol Bagh and Deshbandhu Gupta Road.
