Delhi CM Attends Launch Of Redeveloped ‘Jan Seva Connect’ Post Office

Rekha Gupta praised the Centre’s initiative to modernise post offices with expanded digital and citizen services nationwide.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday said the modernisation of post offices across the country reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of citizen-centric governance. Speaking at the inauguration of the redeveloped ‘Jan Seva Connect’ post office at Nehru Place, Gupta praised the Centre’s initiative to transform traditional post offices into modern public service hubs equipped with digital and banking facilities.

The event was attended by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, along with officials from the Department of Posts. Gupta said it was a matter of pride that the nationwide programme to redevelop 25,000 post offices had begun in the national capital. She described the initiative as an example of forward-looking planning aimed at strengthening public service delivery across urban and rural India.

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister noted that post offices were once primarily associated with letters and parcel services but have evolved significantly in recent years. Under the current system, citizens can now access banking services, savings schemes, Aadhaar-related facilities, passport assistance and various digital services through post offices. She said the expansion of services allows citizens to access multiple government facilities under one roof, improving convenience and accessibility.

Gupta said the ‘Jan Seva Connect’ concept represents a broader effort to modernise public institutions while improving the overall experience for citizens. She highlighted the redesigned employee workspaces, upgraded interiors, better seating arrangements and improved customer service standards introduced as part of the redevelopment initiative. According to her, these changes not only modernise the appearance of post offices but also enhance operational efficiency and public interaction.

Describing post offices as an important part of India’s social and emotional fabric, the chief minister said the government had chosen to revitalise the vast postal network rather than allow it to become outdated. She called the initiative an example of visionary leadership that combines technology with inclusive governance. Gupta expressed confidence that redeveloped post offices would emerge as important centres for digital services, financial inclusion and reliable citizen outreach in the years ahead.

The Delhi chief minister also assured full cooperation from the state government in implementing the initiative and expanding its reach. She said coordination between the Centre and state governments would help ensure that modern postal and digital services become accessible to more households across the city and the country. The redevelopment programme forms part of the Centre’s broader push to modernise public infrastructure and improve access to government services through technology-driven solutions.
