Delhi-Bound IndiGo Flight Diverted To Lucknow Following Pilot’s Mid-Air Emergency Declaration

An IndiGo flight operating from Agartala to Delhi was diverted to Lucknow on Tuesday after the pilot declared an emergency in mid-air following a suspected fire warning in the aircraft’s cargo area. The flight, 6E 6504, operated by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., made a precautionary landing at Lucknow Airport after the pilot received a smoke warning indication.

The pilot declared the emergency at around 6:29 p.m. IST, after which Lucknow Airport activated its emergency response procedures. The aircraft landed safely at 6:31 p.m., with fire and rescue teams, ambulances, medical personnel, security staff and terminal support deployed as a precaution. The aircraft subsequently moved to the bay at 6:33 p.m.

The flight was carrying 103 passengers and six crew members, according to a statement issued by Lucknow Airport. Passengers completed deboarding at around 6:35 p.m., while IndiGo’s technical personnel remained on standby to conduct necessary safety checks on the aircraft.

The suspected fire warning was later determined to be a false alarm, with the situation identified as such at around 6:39 p.m. The airport said the emergency was subsequently withdrawn after the aircraft and relevant systems were assessed. No untoward incident was reported, and the passengers and crew were safely accommodated during the precautionary response.

The diversion comes days after another IndiGo flight was diverted following a security-related alert. Flight 6E 97, operating from Lucknow to Dammam, was diverted to Ahmedabad on September 10 after a bomb scare and landed safely at the airport at around 5:40 p.m. The latest incident similarly prompted precautionary emergency measures, but officials said the Lucknow diversion was handled smoothly without any reported injuries or other untoward incident.
