Delhi Assembly to Host First-Ever All India Speakers’ Conference
Amit Shah to inaugurate historic two-day meet; sessions to explore democracy, freedom movement, and AI in governance
The Delhi Assembly will, for the first time, host the All India Speakers’ Conference, a two-day event beginning Sunday that will bring together presiding officers from across the country.
The conference will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will also release a commemorative stamp to mark the centenary of Vitthalbhai Patel, India’s first elected Speaker, and open an exhibition on legislative history.
The event will see participation from Speakers of 29 State Assemblies along with Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of six Legislative Councils, making it one of the largest such gatherings in recent years. It will conclude with a valedictory address by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, in the presence of the Rajya Sabha Chairman and Union Cabinet Ministers.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said the conference will feature four thematic sessions. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar will speak on Vitthalbhai Patel’s role in shaping India’s Constitution and legislative institutions.

A special documentary tracing India’s democratic journey narrated by actor Anupam Kher will be screened, alongside a cultural programme featuring Rajasthani Kachhi Ghodi dance, Haryana’s Banchari Nagada, and a North-East welcome dance, presented by the Sahitya Kala Parishad.
The conference not only commemorates 100 years of Vitthalbhai Patel’s election as Speaker in 1925 but also aims to reflect on India’s democratic evolution and future.
