Delhi Assembly: Kejriwal’s ‘Phansi-Ghar’ Exposed as Mere Tiffin Room
Delhi Assembly uproar over AAP’s historical misrepresentation claims.
A heated clash erupted in the Delhi Assembly yesterday as Speaker Vijender Gupta revealed that the so-called “phansi-ghar” (execution room), inaugurated by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in 2022, was originally a British-era tiffin room, according to a 2011 map.
The BJP accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of distorting history, with PWD Minister Parvesh Verma announcing plans to remove freedom fighters’ photos from the site. Gupta debunked AAP’s claim of a tunnel to the Red Fort, citing historians and National Archives documents that identify the structure as a lift and ventilation duct system, not an execution chamber.
BJP MLAs demanded Kejriwal apologize for misleading the public, with Ajay Mahawar proposing a censure motion. AAP’s Jarnail Singh countered, citing ChatGPT to defend the “phansi-ghar” claim, while Leader of Opposition Atishi criticized the focus on this issue amid Delhi’s urgent challenges like healthcare and law enforcement.
The debate, witnessed by a British parliamentary delegation, highlighted the 1912 Delhi Assembly building’s historical significance. Gupta directed AAP to present evidence on August 6, as tensions underscored ongoing political rivalries.
