Delhi Airport Waterlogging Reported After Heavy Rain, Passengers Face Difficulties

Heavy rainfall led to waterlogging at the entry gates of Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, causing inconvenience to passengers and disrupting access to the terminal. Visuals from the airport showed water accumulated near the gates, with passengers rolling up their trousers and pushing luggage trolleys through the flooded area.

Passengers described difficult conditions while attempting to reach the arrival and entry gates. One passenger, Mansi, told ANI that she had been waiting for around half an hour for the water level to recede before proceeding towards the gates. Another passenger, Himanshi, also described a significant accumulation of water and said she was waiting for conditions to improve.

A passenger recalled a similar incident occurring around two years ago and noted that the rainfall appeared heavier this time. Waterlogging was also reported from several other parts of Delhi following the downpour. The disruption came as the city observed Janmashtami, with several areas also witnessing religious celebrations and increased movement.

According to India Meteorological Department data, Palam recorded 3.4 mm of rainfall between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm, while Najafgarh recorded 0.5 mm between 8.30 am and 11.30 am. The IMD issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi, warning that rainfall could cause waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpasses, while traffic movement and public transport services could also face delays.

In its short-range forecast issued at 2.15 pm, the weather office predicted light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and lightning across several parts of Delhi between 2.15 pm and 4.15 pm, with heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations. Another spell was forecast between 5 pm and 8 pm, with heavy rain possible in a few areas.

The IMD also forecast moderate rainfall at most places, with isolated areas potentially receiving 50–100 mm of heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph. Commuters were advised to check traffic updates before travelling and avoid areas near power lines and electrical wires during thunderstorms.
