Delhi 10/11 Probe: Technical Associate of Red Fort Suicide Bomber Held; Drone Attack Plans Uncovered

NIA nabs Kashmir tech whiz in Red Fort blast's exploding drone conspiracy.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Jasir Bilal Wani, alias Danish, from Srinagar on Monday, identifying him as a key technical aide to suicide bomber Dr. Umar un Nabi in the deadly Red Fort car blast that killed 13 and injured over 25 on November 10. The 28-year-old from Qazigund, Anantnag district, allegedly modified commercial drones into explosive-laden weapons and experimented with makeshift rockets, aiming for Hamas-style aerial attacks on Delhi landmarks.

Wani, a political science graduate brainwashed by Umar over months, met the "Doctor module" at a Kulgam mosque in October 2024 before relocating to a rented spot near Al-Falah University in Faridabad. There, he collaborated with Umar and fellow doctor Muzammil Ganaie to stockpile 360 kg of ammonium nitrate, potassium nitrate, and sulfur—enough for multiple blasts—while testing drone payloads capable of carrying up to 5 kg of explosives each.

Tragedy compounded when Wani's father, Bilal Ahmad Wani, a dry fruit seller, died from self-immolation burns in a Srinagar hospital Monday, protesting the detention of Jasir and uncle Nabeel Ahmad. The Wanis neighbor the family of arrested doctor Dr. Adeel Ahmed Rather in Pulwama; police are now hunting Adeel's brother, Dr. Muzaffar Rather, believed hiding in Afghanistan with links to the module's overseas handlers.

The multi-agency probe intensified with raids across Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab, uncovering a Jaish-e-Mohammed-inspired "white-collar" network of professionals. A day earlier, NIA nabbed Amir Rashid Ali, the Kashmiri in whose name the blast Hyundai i20 was registered, for providing logistics like the safe house and vehicle procurement.

Delhi Police ramped up scrutiny on Al-Falah University, issuing summons to founder Jawad Ahmad Siddiqui over accreditation fraud flagged by NAAC, alongside two forgery FIRs. The varsity, where Umar lectured, faces grant freezes as investigators probe if it unwittingly sheltered the terror cell amid its explosive stockpiles and radicalization efforts.
