Delhi 10/11 Probe: Al Falah University Staff Face Intense Probe After Bomber’s Suspected Connections Emerge

Investigators hunt Umar Nabi’s handlers on campus.

Investigative agencies have placed approximately 200 doctors and staff members of Al Falah University in Faridabad under intense scrutiny following revelations that alleged suicide bomber Dr Umar Nabi had deep connections with the institution. Sources indicate authorities are examining whether some personnel provided covert support to Umar, who detonated an explosive-laden vehicle outside Jammu & Kashmir airport on November 10.

A key breakthrough came with the detention of Afsana, an anganwadi worker from Golpuri village, who rented a room in Nuh’s Hidayat Colony to Umar on the recommendation of her relative Shoaib, an electrician employed at the university. Afsana had been absconding since the blast but was recently located; her entire family is now under questioning as agencies map Umar’s movements and local support network.

Investigators are particularly alarmed by reports that Umar received unusual privileges at the university, including a six-month unexplained absence in 2023 without disciplinary action and minimal teaching responsibilities limited to brief evening or night-shift lectures. Colleagues reportedly resented his preferential treatment, prompting suspicion of an internal handler shielding him while he pursued activities outside academic duties.

More than 1,000 individuals have been questioned, hostels and off-campus accommodations raided, and mobile data of several employees found deleted. On Wednesday, numerous staff members were observed leaving the campus with packed belongings, citing leave, as frequent security checks created an atmosphere of unease among students and faculty.

The fallout has severely impacted Al Falah Medical College hospital, with daily outpatient numbers plummeting from 200 to under 100 amid public fears of terrorism links. Meanwhile, three additional persons—including a Sohna mosque cleric, his teenage son, and a madrasa teacher—remain in custody, with CCTV footage from the mosque seized to trace Umar’s final movements before the fatal attack.
