Dehradun-Saharanpur Rail Link Planned, But No Deadline Yet
Railway minister confirms survey, but project lacks timeline.
A new 81-km railway line connecting Dehradun to Saharanpur via Shakumbhari Devi is in the works, but no timeline has been set for its completion, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha.
In a written response, Vaishnaw confirmed that survey work has commenced to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed route. However, the project still awaits consultations with stakeholders including state governments and approvals from key bodies such as NITI Aayog and the Finance Ministry.
The minister clarified that new railway infrastructure projects are prioritized based on multiple factors such as traffic demand, socio-economic benefits, last-mile connectivity, and financial feasibility. He also noted that timelines depend on available funds, ongoing project liabilities, and competing developmental demands.
