Deadly Himachal Landslide! 6 Killed, Several Injured Near Manikaran Gurudwara
Storm Unleashes Deadly Landslide Near Manikaran Gurudwara: 6 Killed, Several Injured
A ferocious storm-triggered landslide struck Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Sunday, claiming six lives and injuring several others near the revered Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib.
The disaster unfolded when a massive tree, uprooted by the tempest, crashed onto vehicles and wooden carts along the road, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.
Kullu’s Sub Divisional Magistrate Vikas Shukla, on-site with medical teams, police, and revenue officials, confirmed the grim toll. “A tree on the mountain opposite the gurudwara gave way amid the storm and landslide, smashing into parked vehicles and rehris,” he told reporters, as rescue and relief efforts raced against time.
Among the identified victims are Reena, a local from Manikaran, Varsini from Bangalore, and Sameer, a Nepali worker in Kullu. Three others remain unnamed, their identities shrouded in the chaos.
The injured—Ramesh, his wife Palavi, and son Bhargav from Bangalore, alongside Haryana’s Prachi and Vikram Aacharya with his wife Tumpa—were rushed to Kullu hospital. Authorities say they’re stable and out of danger.
Yet, haunting social media videos reveal a raw edge to the tragedy, with cries of despair and claims that help lagged for the first hour.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, joined by Opposition Leader Jai Ram Thakur, mourned the loss, directing the district administration to spare no effort in aiding victims and ensuring top-notch care for the wounded.
Kullu Congress MLA Sunder Singh Thakur noted the tree was hollow, a silent menace that collapsed onto unsuspecting lives below.
As rescue teams comb through the wreckage, this landslide—unleashed by nature’s fury—casts a somber shadow over Manikaran, a spiritual haven now grappling with sudden sorrow. The state vows swift support, but for those lost and hurt, the scars of this Sunday storm will linger long.
