DCIL Marks 50 Years, Handles 80% of India’s Dredging Projects

DCIL celebrates 50 years, targets Rs 3,000 crore growth.

The Dredging Corporation of India Limited (DCIL) marked its 50th anniversary on Sunday, setting an ambitious growth target of Rs 3,000 crore as part of its expansion and modernisation plans.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal praised DCIL for its critical role in maintaining India’s ports and waterways. “For five decades, DCIL has ensured smooth cargo movement and strengthened the country’s maritime supply chain, supporting growth in the blue economy,” he said.

Union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur highlighted DCIL’s contributions to India’s vision of a self-reliant maritime sector, while Vijay Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, noted that the company is exploring new domains like submarine cable trenching, offshore wind energy support, and inland waterways development.

Currently, DCIL undertakes nearly 80% of India’s maintenance dredging, handling around 120 million cubic metres annually out of a total 150 million cubic metres. The Golden Jubilee celebrations in Visakhapatnam brought together employees and officials, including Visakhapatnam Port Authority Deputy Chairperson Roshni Aparanji K, to commemorate DCIL’s five decades of service to the nation.
