CPES and IES Must Drive Citizen-Centric Growth, Says President Murmu
Murmu urges civil services to ensure policies improve citizen lives.
President Droupadi Murmu on Friday underscored the crucial role of the Central Power Engineering Service (CPES) and Indian Economic Service (IES) officers in shaping India’s development trajectory and ensuring that economic policies deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
Addressing the officers at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu highlighted that they are at the forefront of India’s growth story, playing a decisive role in policy formulation, reform implementation, and promoting inclusive, sustainable development. She urged them to adopt a forward-looking, solution-oriented approach, emphasizing agility, innovation, and commitment to public service.
“Behind every data point is a human story,” the President said, stressing that policies must uplift lives, especially those of the most vulnerable, and go beyond mere statistics. She encouraged continuous learning, professional excellence, and ethical governance to ensure that policy outcomes reflect real-world impact.

Speaking to CPES officers, Murmu described electricity as a key driver of industrial growth, technological innovation, and improved quality of life. She acknowledged their contributions to strengthening power infrastructure, including generation, transmission, and distribution, while maintaining reliability and safety standards.
To IES officers, she stressed their pivotal role in steering economic policy, managing inflation, fostering employment, and reducing socio-economic inequalities in a rapidly evolving domestic and global environment. She also highlighted the importance of coordination between technical services like CPES and analytical services like IES for effective and well-designed implementation of development initiatives.
The interaction reinforced the government’s focus on aligning technical expertise and economic planning with citizen-centric outcomes, emphasizing the civil services’ pivotal role in driving inclusive and sustainable growth across India.
