Congress Accuses Scindia, BJP of Shielding Poll Fraud, Demands Audit of Voter Rolls

Congress slams Scindia as BJP scrambles to dismiss Rahul Gandhi’s poll rigging allegations

The Congress party launched a scathing counterattack against Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday, accusing him and other BJP leaders of shielding alleged electoral fraud following Scindia’s criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s claims of poll rigging. Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged that only those “fattened” by the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) “vote chori” fear an independent, evidence-based audit, vowing to scrutinize BJP strongholds once machine-readable electoral rolls are accessed.

Scindia, a former Congress member who defected to the BJP in 2020, had earlier condemned Gandhi in Bhopal, accusing him of undermining India’s economy and institutions like the ECI, judiciary, and armed forces, calling it a reflection of a “bankrupt mentality.” He defended the ECI’s transparency, asserting that it has bolstered India’s global reputation as the largest democracy.

In a fiery response on X, Khera retorted, “BJP loudmouths are tripping over each other to rubbish Rahul ji’s claims without evidence. Their constituencies should be the first under the scanner.” The Congress alleges that Gandhi’s call for a probe into electoral irregularities threatens to expose manipulations, prompting a defensive reaction from BJP leaders.

Scindia maintained that the ECI’s processes ensure free and fair elections, accusing Congress of belittling constitutional bodies. The escalating war of words underscores deepening political tensions, with Congress intensifying its demand for transparency in India’s electoral system.
