Congress Says ED Misuse Exposed After Court Declines Cognisance in National Herald Case

Court rejects ED case, exposing political vendetta against Gandhis.

The Congress party asserted on December 16, 2025, that the Narendra Modi government's alleged misuse of investigative agencies has been unequivocally laid bare following a Delhi court's decision to decline cognizance of the Enforcement Directorate's money laundering chargesheet in the National Herald case involving prominent leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and five other individuals.

In an official statement, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate condemned the proceedings as entirely unlawful and driven by malice, emphasizing that the court's ruling has invalidated the Enforcement Directorate's jurisdiction over the matter due to the absence of a foundational First Information Report, which is essential for establishing a legitimate predicate offense under prevailing legal frameworks.

Shrinate further highlighted the government's decade-long campaign of politically motivated persecution against the principal opposition party, declaring that the baseless accusations have now been unmasked before the Indian populace, revealing a pattern of orchestrated attempts to undermine democratic adversaries through unsubstantiated legal actions.

The spokesperson elaborated that the case lacked any substantive evidence of money laundering, proceeds of crime, or illicit property transactions, characterizing the entire episode as a calculated witch hunt involving propaganda, reputational damage, and electoral sabotage, all of which have been decisively repudiated by the judicial intervention.

Reaffirming the party's unwavering resolve, Shrinate stated that the Congress and its leadership remain steadfast in their pursuit of truth and the protection of every citizen's rights, undeterred by intimidation tactics, as the organization continues to champion transparency and justice in the face of adversarial governance.
