Congress Objects To Vegetarian-Only BRICS Gala Dinner Menu, Calls It Dietary Imposition

A political controversy erupted on Monday over the entirely vegetarian menu served at the BRICS leaders’ gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam, with the Congress accusing the government of attempting to impose dietary preferences and the BJP rejecting the criticism as an effort to politicise food. The dinner, organised for visiting BRICS leaders, featured an all-vegetarian selection highlighting Indian cuisine. The menu choice became a subject of political debate after Congress leaders questioned why non-vegetarian dishes were not included for the foreign dignitaries. Congress leader Pawan Khera criticised the menu and said the choice reflected what he described as the ruling party’s “mindset to impose”.
