Congress MLA Says Siddaramaiah Has Decided To Resign As Karnataka CM
Congress MLA claims Siddaramaiah may resign as Karnataka Chief Minister.
Amid growing political speculation in Karnataka, senior Congress leader and nine-time MLA R. V. Deshpande on Wednesday claimed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to tender his resignation, triggering uncertainty over a possible leadership change within the state government. The remarks have intensified discussions within the ruling Congress party, even as no official confirmation has been issued by the party high command.
Deshpande told reporters after meeting the Chief Minister in Bengaluru that Siddaramaiah had conveyed his intention to step down, stating that he would honour an alleged commitment made to the Congress leadership. According to Deshpande, the Chief Minister informed MLAs that he had already given his word to the party’s central leadership and would abide by it, adding that the resignation could come as early as the next day.
The MLA further said he had personally urged Siddaramaiah to continue in office, but the Chief Minister remained firm on fulfilling his commitment to the party high command. His statement has fuelled speculation about whether the Congress leadership is preparing for a transition of power or a reshuffle within the state’s top leadership structure.

Adding to the political churn, religious figures and political observers also weighed in on the situation. A seer from the Rambhapuri mutt reportedly commented on Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, suggesting that earlier predictions about his elevation to the Chief Minister’s post may now materialise, further intensifying public debate over a possible change in leadership.
Meanwhile, internal discussions within the Congress party appear to be underway, with ministers and MLAs holding consultations in Bengaluru. Senior leaders, including party in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, have also arrived in the state to assess the situation, while party members have acknowledged confusion but expressed confidence that the central leadership will resolve the matter.
Despite multiple statements and growing political chatter, the Congress high command has not issued any official announcement regarding a leadership change in Karnataka. Party insiders indicate that consultations are ongoing, and a final decision is expected only after internal discussions conclude.
