Congress Leader’s Viral Gun Reel Prompts Kalaburagi Police Investigation
Viral reel shows Congress leader with guns dancing to ‘Fa9la’ track; police investigate legality and licensing.
A video showing a Karnataka Congress leader’s close associate flaunting guns while making a social media reel to the popular song “Fa9la” has sparked a police investigation and political controversy.
The reel, which has circulated widely on social platforms, depicts Matin Patel, a close aide of a Congress MLA from the Afzalpur constituency, entering a vehicle and dancing with a pistol and another firearm visible, replicating scenes from the song “Fa9la” featured in the film Dhurandhar. The video shows him and his companions performing in a black SUV in a manner reminiscent of cinematic “gun culture,” prompting public concern over the message it conveys.
Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Sharanappa S D confirmed that law enforcement has launched an inquiry to determine the circumstances under which the video was shot and the legality of the weapons displayed. “A video has gone viral on social media showing a man flaunting arms. We know the person in the video. I have told officers to find out where the video was made and under which police station it falls,” the commissioner told reporters.

Investigators are working to ascertain whether the weapons featured in the reel are real and, if so, whether they are covered by valid licences. If the firearms are found to be unlicensed or used in violation of the terms of a licence, authorities have indicated action will be taken under India’s Arms Act. Police have not yet publicly disclosed a timeline for the outcome of these checks.
The controversy has already attracted public attention beyond law enforcement circles because it touches on broader debates about political figures and the representation of guns in online content. Videos like this, featuring symbolic or real weapons set to popular music, often fuel discussions around social responsibility and the influence of social media trends.
As the probe continues, local political actors and community members are watching closely for official findings and any subsequent legal steps. The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of how public figures and their associates use digital platforms and the importance of compliance with firearm regulations in India.
