Congress Leaders Urge LG Manoj Sinha for Flood Rehabilitation in Jammu

Party delegation demands relief package, infrastructure restoration, and expert assessment after devastating August floods.

A delegation from the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, led by working president Raman Bhalla, met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday to demand a comprehensive rehabilitation and reconstruction package for areas devastated by August floods in the Jammu region. The delegation submitted a memorandum highlighting the urgent need for relief and restoration following severe weather events that caused widespread destruction.

Since last month, Jammu and Kashmir has faced catastrophic cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides, claiming over 150 lives. The natural disasters damaged critical infrastructure, including more than 4,000 homes, 70 bridges, and over 3,000 kilometres of roads. The Congress delegation emphasised the plight of affected families and farmers, urging the central government to provide immediate financial and logistical support for rehabilitation, restoration, and rebuilding efforts in the region.

The delegation also called for the formation of a high-level expert team to assess areas impacted by landslides and land subsidence. Additionally, they pressed for urgent repairs to damaged road infrastructure and the completion of key road projects to restore connectivity and support economic recovery in the affected areas. The memorandum underscored the need for swift action to address the humanitarian and infrastructural challenges faced by residents.
