Congress Leader Booked for Allegedly Distributing Voter IDs in Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad Congress leader faces probe for illegal voter ID distribution.

Case was registered against Congress leader V Naveen Yadav for allegedly distributing voter ID cards in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency, where a bypoll is scheduled for November 11. The controversy, which has sparked accusations of electoral malpractice, has intensified scrutiny on the ruling Congress party ahead of the crucial vote.

The case was filed at Madhura Nagar Police Station on Monday, following a complaint by an election official. Authorities have charged Yadav under relevant sections of the Representation of the People Act, alleging that he illegally distributed voter ID cards during an event held approximately a month ago. Police officials confirmed that an investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the incident and determine whether others were involved in the alleged breach of electoral protocol.

The issue came to light after BJP Lok Sabha member M Raghunandan Rao raised a formal complaint with the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Monday. Rao accused Yadav of orchestrating the unauthorized distribution at a public program in Jubilee Hills, flouting Election Commission guidelines. According to the Election Commission, only designated Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are authorized to distribute voter ID cards, and such activities must occur under strict supervision by electoral and local authorities. Rao demanded an immediate inquiry into what he called an “illegal” voter ID distribution event, urging the CEO to identify and take action against any officials, including police, who may have facilitated the program.

The allegations have triggered a political firestorm, with opposition parties accusing the Congress of attempting to manipulate the upcoming bypoll. The BJP has seized the opportunity to question the integrity of the ruling party, alleging that such actions undermine the democratic process. Meanwhile, Congress leaders have yet to issue an official response to the accusations, leaving the public awaiting further developments.

As the investigation deepens, the controversy threatens to cast a shadow over the Jubilee Hills bypoll, a closely watched contest that could have significant implications for the political landscape in Telangana. Authorities have promised a thorough probe to ensure accountability, while voters and political observers demand transparency to safeguard the sanctity of the electoral process. With tensions rising, this unfolding scandal could reshape the narrative leading up to the November vote.
