Congress in Shock! Shashi Tharoor Lauds Centre's Diplomatic Push
Tharoor Lauds Centre’s Diplomatic Push Post-Pahalgam Attack, Despite Congress Snub
Congress MP and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor expressed gratitude to the Centre for entrusting him with leading an all-party delegation to key global capitals, even as his party distanced itself from his selection.
The diplomatic mission, a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, aims to expose Pakistan’s alleged role and reinforce India’s anti-terror stance worldwide.
In a post on X, Tharoor said, “I am honoured by the Government of India’s invitation to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals to present our nation’s perspective on recent events.

When national interest is at stake, I will not be found wanting. Jai Hind!” The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs named Tharoor among seven MPs, including BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, JD(U)’s Sanjay Kumar Jha, DMK’s Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Eknath Shinde, to spearhead the outreach.
However, Congress clarified that Tharoor was not among the four MPs it recommended for the initiative. Congress MP Jairam Ramesh revealed that the party had submitted the names of Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Syed Naseer Hussain, and Raja Brar to the government, highlighting a disconnect with the Centre’s final selection.
This snub follows recent party criticism of Tharoor for praising the Modi government’s ‘Operation Sindoor,’ a targeted strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied regions.
The delegations will visit nations including the United States, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Egypt, and Japan later this month to brief foreign governments on the Pahalgam attack and clarify that ‘Operation Sindoor’ focused solely on terror targets, not civilians.
The initiative reflects a rare bipartisan effort to project a unified Indian stance on countering terrorism and challenging Pakistan’s global narrative.
Despite internal party friction, Tharoor’s inclusion underscores his diplomatic experience, as the mission seeks to strengthen India’s global partnerships in the fight against terrorism.
