Congo Businessman Isolated in Ahmedabad, Ebola Testing Underway

A Congolese businessman and three contacts are isolated in Ahmedabad; Ebola virus testing is underway currently.

Gujarat health authorities have isolated a businessman from the Democratic Republic of Congo along with three individuals who came into contact with him after concerns emerged over a possible Ebola virus infection. Officials confirmed that blood samples from all four individuals have been sent to a laboratory in Pune for testing, while the patients remain under observation in isolation wards at hospitals in Ahmedabad as a precautionary measure.

According to Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya, the 37-year-old businessman traveled from Congo to Mumbai around five to seven days ago before later reaching Vadodara. After developing a fever, he was admitted to a private hospital in Vadodara for medical attention. Following concerns related to his recent travel history and symptoms, the patient was shifted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and placed in a dedicated Ebola isolation ward for monitoring and treatment.

The minister stated that the businessman’s condition is currently stable and that his temperature is under control. He also clarified that there has been no confirmation of Ebola infection so far and urged the public not to panic. Two individuals who had accompanied the businessman have been admitted to isolated wards at SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad, while another person who came into contact with them has also been isolated as part of the precautionary protocol initiated by health authorities.

Officials said the isolated individuals will remain under observation for approximately 10 to 11 days while awaiting test results from Pune. Gujarat’s health department has also intensified screening procedures at Ahmedabad International Airport for passengers arriving from countries affected by Ebola outbreaks, including Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan. Authorities have additionally prepared isolation wards in government hospitals to handle any suspected cases that may arise in the coming weeks.

The precautionary measures come after the World Health Organization declared the ongoing Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern earlier this month. Ebola is a severe viral disease that spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids and requires rapid containment measures to prevent wider transmission. Health officials in Gujarat said they are closely monitoring international arrivals showing symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold in order to minimize any potential risk.

Minister Pansheriya pointed out that a similar suspected case had recently been investigated in Gujarat and later tested negative for Ebola. He appealed to citizens not to spread rumors or misinformation regarding the situation and reiterated that there are currently no confirmed Ebola cases either in Gujarat or elsewhere in India. The minister also advised residents to contact health officers, hospitals, or nearby primary health centers if they notice symptoms or require further medical guidance related to the disease.
