Commercial Operations Begin As First Flight Arrives At Noida International Airport
Jewar airport achieves key milestone with inaugural commercial flight.
Commercial flight operations commenced at the newly built Noida International Airport on Monday, with the arrival of the inaugural passenger flight from Lucknow marking a major milestone for India's aviation infrastructure. The airport, located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar district, began operations nearly three months after its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28.
The first commercial service to land at the airport was IndiGo flight 6E-2278, which departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow and touched down at Noida International Airport at 7:55 am. The successful arrival officially signalled the start of passenger operations at what is expected to become a major aviation hub for northern India.
Passengers on board the inaugural flight celebrated the occasion by applauding as the aircraft completed its landing. Airport authorities also marked the historic moment with a traditional water cannon salute, a ceremonial gesture commonly used to welcome inaugural flights and significant aviation milestones.

The return journey, operated as IndiGo flight 6E-2279, is scheduled to depart from Noida International Airport at 6:55 pm and arrive in Lucknow at 8 pm. The service is among the first commercial routes connecting the new airport to domestic destinations as operations gradually expand.
The launch of commercial services is expected to enhance air connectivity for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh. Authorities have projected that the airport will help reduce congestion at Delhi's existing aviation facilities while supporting economic growth, tourism and business activity across the region.
With operations now underway, Noida International Airport is poised to play a significant role in India's expanding aviation sector. Future phases of development are expected to increase passenger handling capacity and add more domestic and international routes, strengthening the airport's position as a key transport gateway for northern India.
