Cold Wave Prevails in Gurugram as Minimum Temperature Drops to 3.5°C
Gurugram records a minimum temperature of 3.5°C as cold wave conditions persist, prompting IMD warnings and dense fog alerts.
Cold wave conditions persisted in Gurugram on January 14, 2026, as the minimum temperature dropped to 3.5°C on Wednesday morning, a slight rise from the previous day's low of 0.3°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed the city under a yellow alert for cold wave and dense fog, with the warning likely to be extended through the day. Dense fog significantly reduced visibility, dropping to 300 meters at 3 am in outer and rural areas and improving marginally to 350 meters by 8:30 am. Key arterial roads, including the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and Golf Course Extension Road, experienced poor visibility during early morning hours.
The IMD has cautioned that dense fog is expected to continue during late night and early morning hours over the next few days, potentially affecting visibility on highways and major roads. Westerly winds remained moderate, ranging between 5.5 and 7.4 km/h during the night and increasing to 11 km/h by 9 am. While the cold wave is set to persist with night temperatures remaining significantly below normal, meteorologists anticipate gradual improvement in the coming two to three days, with minimum temperatures likely to rise by 2°C to 3°C toward seasonal norms.
Nearby districts also recorded low temperatures, with Faridabad at 4.2°C and Jhajjar at 5.3°C. The lowest minimum temperature in Haryana was 0.4°C in Saragthal. Authorities have issued an advisory urging residents—particularly the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions—to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold and take necessary precautions such as wearing warm clothing and limiting outdoor activities during peak fog hours.

The ongoing cold wave reflects broader winter weather patterns affecting northern India, where dense fog and subnormal temperatures have disrupted daily life and transportation in recent days. Residents are advised to stay updated with IMD forecasts and exercise caution while commuting in low-visibility conditions.
