CM Yogi Tears into Previous Govts at School Chalo Abhiyan Launch, Says Education Was Ignored Before 2017
For 60 Lakh Children Who Finally Got a Classroom, Yogi Says the Real Work Is Just Beginning
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday launched the state-wide ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ for the academic session 2026–27, reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child is enrolled in school. Addressing an event at the Composite School in Shivpur Varunapar Zone, the Chief Minister highlighted the progress made in the basic education sector over the past nine years.
Yogi Adityanath stated that nearly 60 lakh new children have been enrolled in basic education schools since 2017, describing it as a major step towards strengthening the state’s education system. He emphasized that sustained efforts by the government have significantly improved access to schooling, infrastructure, and awareness among parents regarding the importance of education.
Launching a sharp political attack, the Chief Minister accused previous governments of “facilitating cheating” in examinations by neglecting classroom teaching. He remarked that prior to 2017, education was not a priority, and systems were deliberately weakened to enable malpractice. “To enable this cheating, it was essential that no actual teaching or learning took place within schools,” he said, underlining the need for systemic reforms.

Highlighting the broader social impact of education, Yogi Adityanath said that literacy is the foundation of a progressive society. “When a child becomes educated and cultured, they express gratitude and respect throughout life. When a child becomes literate, society progresses and the nation achieves new heights of prosperity,” he said. He also warned that illiteracy contributes to poverty and backwardness, making education a crucial tool for development.
The School Chalo Abhiyan aims to further strengthen enrollment drives, reduce dropout rates, and improve learning outcomes across Uttar Pradesh. With renewed focus on quality education and inclusive access, the campaign is expected to play a key role in shaping the state’s human capital and long-term growth trajectory.
