CM Vijay Visits Mangaluru, Heads To Kollur Mookambika Temple For Darshan

CM Vijay arrives in Mangaluru, visits Kollur Mookambika Temple

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay arrived at Mangaluru International Airport on Friday and proceeded directly to the Kollur Mookambika Temple in Udupi district amid heightened security arrangements coordinated by police forces from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The visit, described as a private pilgrimage, saw extensive security deployment and controlled movement along the entire route from the airport to the temple town.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister landed at Mangaluru airport at approximately 1.20 pm aboard a special aircraft (VT-VSV) from New Delhi. Shortly after arrival, he exited the airport under tight security cover and immediately began his road journey towards Kollur, located in Byndoor taluk of Udupi district. The temple destination lies nearly 120 kilometres from Mangaluru, requiring a carefully managed convoy movement through multiple districts.

Police officials confirmed that a coordinated security arrangement was put in place involving both state police forces. Around 45 personnel from the Tamil Nadu Police had arrived in advance and worked alongside Karnataka Police teams stationed in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The convoy included eight cars, supported by escort and pilot vehicles, ensuring layered protection for the Chief Minister throughout the journey.

Security measures were further intensified along the Mangaluru–Kollur corridor, with personnel deployed at key junctions, intersections, and sensitive stretches of highway to regulate traffic and prevent congestion. Officials noted that the movement was tightly scheduled, with the Chief Minister expected to reach the temple by around 2.45 pm. Authorities also implemented crowd-control protocols in anticipation of public gatherings along the route.

The Kollur Mookambika Temple, one of the most revered spiritual centres in South India, attracts devotees from across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka throughout the year. The shrine holds significant religious importance and is frequently visited by political leaders and public figures seeking blessings. Vijay’s visit has drawn additional attention as he becomes only the third Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to offer prayers at the temple while in office, following the late M. G. Ramachandran and the late J. Jayalalithaa.

The visit generated visible public interest, with supporters and devotees assembling at various points along the route to catch a glimpse of the Chief Minister’s convoy. Despite the turnout, authorities maintained strict crowd-control measures to ensure smooth passage and prevent disruptions to both the pilgrimage and routine movement of local residents. After completing his prayers at the temple, Vijay was expected to return later in the day as part of his scheduled private visit.
