Overseas Job Fair in Himachal to Connect Youth with Global Opportunities

Himachal Pradesh to host a major overseas job fair in Hamirpur on October 9.

The Himachal Pradesh government is set to launch a transformative overseas recruitment drive on October 9, 2025, at the Government Polytechnic in Hamirpur, aimed at providing international job opportunities for the state’s youth. Directed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the initiative is spearheaded by the Himachal Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (HPSEDC) in partnership with the Department of Labour and Employment, the Department of Technical Education, and a recruitment agency registered with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). This strategic effort underscores the state’s commitment to fostering global competitiveness and self-reliance among its young workforce, addressing the pressing challenge of local unemployment.

The recruitment drive will prioritize transparency and credibility, with candidate selection managed exclusively through an MEA-registered agency to ensure a fair and scam-free process. A state government spokesperson emphasized the significance of the event, urging eligible candidates to seize this unique opportunity to connect with verified international employers. The drive will cover both technical roles—such as IT, engineering, and skilled trades—and non-technical positions, including hospitality, administration, and healthcare support, catering to a diverse pool of applicants.

Detailed information on registration, eligibility criteria (including educational qualifications, age limits, and skill certifications), and required documents like passports and resumes will soon be available through local employment offices, HPSEDC’s website (hpsedc.in), and official social media channels.

This initiative builds on earlier efforts by the Sukhu administration to globalize employment prospects. In June 2025, HPSEDC secured an MEA Recruitment Agent License under the Emigration Act, 1983, enabling it to facilitate safe and legitimate overseas placements. This move addresses longstanding concerns about exploitative private agents, ensuring candidates face no hidden fees or unsafe contracts. The focus on Hamirpur, a hub for technical education with its prominent polytechnic institute, reflects a deliberate choice to tap into the region’s skilled youth, particularly those aged 18-35 with qualifications in high-demand fields like technology, nursing, or construction. Potential destinations for placements include countries in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe, where demand for Indian talent remains strong.

The timing of the October 9 drive, just before the festive season, adds urgency for aspiring candidates, who could secure job offers by year-end. The government’s broader vision includes skill development programs to align local talent with international standards, with HPSEDC planning to integrate language training and cultural orientation to ease transitions abroad. The spokesperson noted that this event is part of a larger strategy to track and support emigrants, ensuring their safety and success. Candidates are advised to prepare comprehensive resumes highlighting relevant skills and to monitor updates closely, as slots are expected to be competitive given the event’s scale and appeal.

Beyond immediate job placements, the recruitment drive promises long-term benefits, including remittances to boost Himachal’s economy and skill enhancement for returning workers. By positioning the state as a hub for global talent, the government aims to reduce dependency on local job markets while empowering youth with international exposure. As Hamirpur prepares to host this landmark event, the initiative marks a bold step toward integrating Himachal’s workforce into the global economy, with Chief Minister Sukhu’s vision setting a precedent for other states to follow.
