CM launches women-protection vehicles in eight cities.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin flagged off 80 specialized pink patrol vehicles on Tuesday, purchased at a total cost of Rs 12 crore, to strengthen safety and protection for women across eight major municipal corporations including Tambaram, Avadi, Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Tiruchy, Tirunelveli and Madurai. These brightly colored vehicles will conduct targeted patrols, respond to emergencies and provide visible reassurance in public areas. The initiative aims to deter crimes against women and ensure swift intervention when needed.
During the same event, Stalin distributed Rs 85 lakh in financial assistance to 525 artistes through welfare schemes of the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram, recognizing their contributions to cultural preservation. The aid supports performers facing economic hardships and promotes the continuation of traditional and innovative art forms across the state. This move highlights the government’s commitment to artistic communities.
Ten Kalaimamani award-winning artistes living in indigent circumstances each received Rs 1 lakh to ease their financial burdens. Five Tamil authors were granted Rs 2 lakh each to research and publish books on rare and significant art forms. Additionally, five theatre artistes and five dance artistes obtained Rs 1.50 lakh each to create and stage new Tamil plays and dance dramas respectively.

The dual launches reflect Tamil Nadu’s balanced focus on public safety and cultural empowerment. With pink patrols now active in key urban centers and direct aid reaching hundreds of artistes, these measures demonstrate proactive steps in gender security and artistic development.
