Kolathur residents benefit from Civic Upgrades and Welfare Support launched by CM Stalin.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Sunday inaugurated a series of civic infrastructure projects and welfare initiatives worth over Rs 45 crore in his Kolathur Assembly constituency, aiming to enhance public facilities and community services.
Key projects were implemented through the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA), Greater Chennai Corporation, and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, focusing on strengthening civic infrastructure and improving local amenities.
Among the highlights was the upgraded Murasoli Maran Park and the Kalaignar Centenary Coin Memorial on Perambur High Road. Developed at a cost of Rs 4.20 crore, the park now features landscaped walking paths, a musical fountain, yoga spaces, badminton courts, children’s play areas, and exercise equipment for senior citizens.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a modern library and the Mudhalvar Padaippagam facility in Jawahar Nagar, built at Rs 4.75 crore to support students preparing for competitive exams. The two-storey complex includes reading halls, computer facilities, and dedicated study sections. Additionally, Stalin opened the Kolathur Modern Market complex on Paper Mills Road, constructed at Rs 9.30 crore, housing 74 commercial shops along with parking, lifts, and modern civic amenities for local traders.
Other infrastructure initiatives include a new school building with 14 classrooms, a women’s gymnasium, a multi-purpose centre with two fair-price ration shops, and the upgradation of sewage pumping stations in Kolathur at Rs 12.48 crore. The sewage project features high-capacity pumps, odour control systems, and IoT-based monitoring technology to improve wastewater management.
Later, Stalin distributed welfare assistance to around 3,200 Muslim beneficiaries ahead of Ramzan, including sewing machines for 320 women, laptops and certificates for students trained in accounting software, and spectacles for 200 people who underwent eye screenings. The initiatives reflect the state government’s broader efforts to promote development, improve civic infrastructure, and support livelihoods in North Chennai.
