CM Samrat Choudhary Inaugurates Mithapur-Karbighiya, Mithapur-Mahuli Flyovers in Patna
New elevated routes aim to ease congestion across key Patna corridors.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday inaugurated the long-awaited Mithapur-Karbighiya and Mithapur-Mahuli flyovers at the Mithapur roundabout in Patna, opening both structures to the public. Vehicular movement began on the two flyovers shortly after the inauguration, marking the completion of key road infrastructure projects in one of the city's busy traffic corridors. The facilities are expected to improve traffic movement around Mithapur and adjoining areas.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav, Cabinet Minister Ramkripal Yadav and Phulwarisharif MLA Shyam Rajak were present at the inauguration ceremony. Officials said the Road Construction Department and Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation completed the final works before opening the flyovers, including road surfacing, lighting and installation of necessary signage. The projects are intended to provide smoother movement for vehicles passing through the Mithapur area.
The Mithapur-Karbighiya flyover is expected to ease congestion around Patna Junction and the Karbighiya roundabout. Vehicles travelling from Kankarbagh, Mithapur and the New Bypass towards GPO, R-Block and the Secretariat will be able to use the elevated route. Traffic travelling in the opposite direction from R-Block and GPO towards the New Bypass and Mahuli elevated road can also use the flyover without descending to the surface-level road.

A wide ground-level service road has also been developed for commuters travelling towards the Karbighiya side of Patna Junction. The facility is expected to improve access to the railway station and make vehicle movement around the station area more organised. By separating some traffic flows from the main surface roads, the new infrastructure is aimed at reducing pressure on roads that frequently experience congestion.
The second phase of the Mithapur-Mahuli-Punpun elevated road has also been completed, including a 2.1-km elevated stretch between Mithapur and Sipara. The first phase connecting Sipara with Mahuli-Punpun became operational in June 2025. With the completion of the second phase, the entire approximately 9-km stretch between Mithapur and Mahuli can now be covered in about seven to eight minutes.
The newly inaugurated flyovers connect with the Mithapur-Sipara-Mahuli elevated road and are expected to improve connectivity towards southern Bihar. The projects will benefit commuters travelling towards Gaya, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Arwal, Biharsharif and Rajgir by providing more direct routes out of Patna. Officials said the infrastructure is aimed at easing traffic pressure around the New Bypass, Patna Junction and other major routes leading towards South Bihar.
